So I am not 100% sure whether you can take any actions. I think not.

The description for Command says:

You speak a one-word command to a creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or follow the command on its next turn. The spell has no effect if the target is undead, if it doesn't understand your language, or if your command is directly harmful to it.

Some typical commands and their effects follow. You might issue a command other than one described here. If you do so, the GM determines how the target behaves. If the target can't follow your command, the spell ends.

Approach. The target moves toward you by the shortest and most direct route, ending its turn if it moves within 5 feet of you.

I would assume the Return command would be the same as Approach, which specifies ending your turn if you move within 5 feet of me. Is that how you read it?

And yes - I absolutely agree that's how it should act, based on 'approach'.

I shored up my Wis save, assuming I'd be dealing with either that or dex saves.

Paladin's have awesome saves at this level.

You're paralyzed. That means my hits are automatic crits. I expect that's it. Bard was definitely going to be all or nothing. Either I fail a save,  so you can lock me down and pick away at me OR I was going to be able to shrug off everything.

5e doesn't really balance classes to fight each other. Classes are designed, mostly, to do a maximum amount of damage to enemies who are either swarms or big bags of hitpoints. Players do far too much damage, compared to their HP, so it will probably be a coin flip blowout.

Sorry, took me a little longer to get back to this than I intended! That didn't drop me, but it came close enough that you'll drop me next round. I didn't even lay a hand on you; I was relying too much on getting a spell or two off, and your saves were too much. Congrats!

All good, no big deal waiting.

Arcane Trickster! I was wondering why your spell DC was so low! That makes sense. I was basically built to avid failing a wis save. You know what they say, you fail a dex save and take damage, you fail a con save and you die, you fail a wis save and your friends die!

What source did you use, just the PHB? I don't remember if Arcane Trickster can use booming blade or not, but if so that would allow your extra mobility to kite around while I take damage. Really I think to be safe you'd need to get a DoT on me, and then stay more than 60 feet away so I couldn't catch you. Expeditious Retreat nearly worked, if I had been slowed that first round I would never be able to catch you. 

But overall, you had a good build but a tough matchup vs my saves.

I used PHB and VGTM. Honestly, I would've done much better keeping my distance and kiting you - I even took Magic Initiate:Warlock and grabbed Eldritch Blast. I could've tried keeping concentration on Exp. Retreat and ran around blasting my heart out!

Yeah, I think the only thing I could do then is hold action to eldritch blast when you enter range.
