Ban flying in general.

With regards to the campaign, have these guys be an exhibition match at gladiatorial arena, then when we finish, cut to the newbs. So whoever survives, can be a mentor or some such. Thoughts?

I never even. Thought of first striking for some reason, though doesn't that just mean whoever has the highest initiative wins (as a lvl 20 our to hits are so high that you need to really work to make your ac anything more than a minor inconvenience.) Something I thought of is how about we do 3 different rounds, one being first strike ,the other being half and the other being whole. (if the arena can afford to entice 2 lvl 20s to fight and doesn't have someone who can at least cast revivify or spare the dying on standby then I am going to have a word for their management.)
Also do you want to ban flying in general or just flying races as the AL rules already ban them but obtaining the ability to fly with a level 20 is not super difficult so the clarification is necessary.
Also I'm not sure where you are going with the campaign idea but I like the sound of it.

I was actually thinking of a three turn melee battle, hence the no flying thing. Sorta like in SAO when Kirito fought Kuradeel in a First Strike duel. Does that seem like a fair revision?

But a best of three combats seems fair. To the death, first strike or Half Health? If its First Strike or Half Health, then I can possibly spin this off into a campaign, mayhaps?

These seem fair, do we regain expended items such as potions at the begining of each match or are they still one time uses? Also it will take me a bit of time to make my character since this week is just being shoved full of time consuming things I must do.

Command  (Wis save DC 16):
You speak a one-word command to a creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or follow the command on its next turn. The spell has no effect if the target is undead, if it doesn't understand your language, or if your command is directly harmful to it.

Some typical commands and their effects follow. You might issue a command other than one described here. If you do so, the GM determines how the target behaves. If the target can't follow your command, the spell ends.

Squawking and flailing as swords fly, a few feathers fall as the blade finds its mark and is pushed through with radiant energy. "Nope nope nope!" he cries in a tiny voice, and pulls away from his assailant. He pauses for a moment and grasps the air, motioning as if there were a ring in the air. In a gravelly voice he intones "Speed? I am speed! and breaks across the arena at incredible speed, attempting to distance himself from his rival.

((Disengage action, Bonus action Expeditious retreat, Dash 60 ft.))

This spell allows you to move at an incredible pace. When you cast this spell, and then as a bonus action on each of your turns until the spell ends, you can take the Dash action.

Actually I have to either ask your permission to switch to crappier armor, or walk back that turn, as I don't have the Str to wear heavy armor without a 10 foot movement penalty. I'll let you decide what is most advantageous to you.

Well this guy is SLIGHTLY less optimized than I thought due to picking one wrong piece of equipment. I was going to ask to change it, but I can live with the limitation.
