Game Questions / Modern game settings?
« Last post by SchrodingersNinja on June 28, 2017, 03:05:45 PM »
Does anyone have any suggestions for game settings or systems that are modern?

Specifically I was wondering about a role playing game which would have players without magic powers but instead using firearms or any type of martial skills a real person could develop?

Links to online rules would be great, but links to rule-books available to buy are acceptable as well.
Announcements / Site Changes

As most everyone knows we recently moved the Irate Pirate to a new host which cause a little disruption over the weekend.  Before we moved I had apparently purchased a package that limited the amount of activity and we exceeded that almost immediately after the move a couple times, so I upgraded my plan.  I didn't realize that by upgrading, that would move the site to a new server, which caused several posts to disappear yesterday.  I do Apologize for any missing posts and we are now fully migrated to the new host and new server and I don't expect anymore interruptions.  This process fixed the slow loading times of the pages and the occasional outages we were experiencing on a daily basis.  Thank you for your patience through all of this and as always, if you have any issues or concerns, please contact either myself or Otter via PM!

Update:  Tapatalk is now working again.

Open to: Anything, but prefer a high powered game like Exalted or Godbound.
Availability: Minimum once per day, very likely I will be available a lot more.
Play Style: Usually something stealth/charisma, occasionally attempt tanks or healers, specifically for a Godbound game looking to perhaps play a bard.
Other Notes: Never have done PbP, but usually run Text-Only games, so should not be a problem.
Looking For Game / Re: Burning Wheel Game?

Hey!  I'd never even heard of this system...

If nobody else knows how to/wants to run it, you could always post in the Burning Wheel subreddit and see if anyone there might be interested in running a game on the forum.  =D
Looking For Game / Burning Wheel Game?

Hey everyone! So I've been reading up on the Burning Wheel system for a while... I don't have Burning Wheel Gold but I have read the original Burning Wheel and the Character Burner and they seem so intriguing. The problem of course is that no one ever seems to run a Burning Wheel game... does anyone have experience running a PbP Burning Wheel game? If so would you be interested in starting a game? I'd love to play it if you do!

Heya! Sorry for the slow reply, I promise I'll be much more available now that exams are finally over!
Thank you so much for the invite, that sounds great! I read through the thread you linked and have a weird concept I wanted to run by you. Sort of inspired by the themes of Ratatouille, I want my character to be a giant cockroach who dreams of being a world-class chef but is hampered by the fact that people think cockroaches are gross and shouldn't be allowed in kitchens. She's determined to overcome such stereotypes with her delicious cuisine, and by being terribly matronly (I'm thinking the cockroach version of Julia Child) aided by the fact that she has 6 legs (or, I guess, 4 arms and 2 legs?) for cooking with, can walk on walls, and survive nuclear explosions. I'll go post more details and stats to the character thread if this sounds okay to you! Happy to come up with a different concept if this isn't the sort of idea you were looking for.

Looking For Players / [D&D 5e] The Roles We Play [0/5 | 4]

Game system:
DnD 5th Edition

Game Style:
Mystery. Some light horror, maybe? Little combat, if any.

Players: 4-5
- [open]

- [open]

Player Skill Expectations:
I'm open to a mix of skill levels.

Starting Character Information:
You'll start at level 5, and remain at that level for the duration of the adventure. For equipment, you'll start with the standard starting gear plus 500 gp, as well as one uncommon magic item and two common consumables. For the uncommon item I would like you to include in your backstory how your character acquired it (a gift? a family heirloom? did they come across it in their previous adventures?), or why it's relevant to your character's personality (eg. a half-orc who wants to fit in in an elf town with a hat of disguise).

Character Creation:
All official materials are allowed, as is UA Revised Ranger. If you want to play any other UA materials, talk it over with me and we can see if it's decently balanced.

Posting Expectations:
Approximately every other day. If you know you're going to be unable to post for a period of time, let me know and we'll figure out a plausible reason for your character to go quiet or put the game on hold for a while.

No evil characters.

The setting is entirely home-brew. Most of that won't matter during character creation or the adventure, but there are a few fluff quirks I'd like to mention up front. There are no seasons, the world is stuck in an eternal summer of sorts. There's also no movement of the earth relative the stars, so I hope you like the constellations as they are right now.

More relevant for character creation, there's also a custom pantheon which I can send you if you want a religious affiliation for your character. If none of the gods suit what you had in mind, we can totally come up with something new.

I'm adapting a weekend campaign for this adventure, so it will be a stand-alone adventure rather than a long-form campaign. This is not to say it probably won't take a while to play still, but there is an end in sight.

Rules-wise, I'm of the mindset that the rules are there in service of player enjoyment, not to stifle it. If you have a creative idea that isn't technically within the bounds of the rules, chances are I'll at least let you try. I also use crits and crit-fails on skill checks as a homebrew rule, but no critical fumble tables or the like.

Please let me know if I missed something or you have any questions!
