Title: What is your name, Player?
Post by: Otter on February 26, 2017, 08:23:07 PM
Hello and welcome, traveler!  Sounds like you might be new around here!

What kind of help are you needing?  Are you...

--completely and totally new to this!
--familiar with the idea, but not the mechanics
--familiar with the mechanics, but not very good at them
--good with the mechanics, but need to brush up or polish particular areas
--comfortable with your abilities as a player, but you'd like to learn how to run a game

I'm sure someone around here will be able to help you out with that!

Reply to this post with what you need help with, and someone will be in touch to help you out!

If you'd like to offer your services as a mentor, PM @Otter or @Indigo !

I've wanted to get into RPGs for quite a while, but I've never actually gotten around to it!

I've ended up here because all my attempts to get games going with my buddies have failed miserably. I figure this is a decent second option. I suppose my main question would be how important it is to have a rulebook with me- I've looked into multiple systems, but never DnD because it's always intimidated me a bit and I think I'd enjoy more narrative-based systems- that being said, I think I'll be playing some DnD anyways due to how popular it is. What materials should I grab to get started?

Edit: Durr, I just found the Player's DnD Basic Rules" PDF from WotC's website

Hi Mummelpuffin!  Welcome to the board, and we're glad you found the Basic Rules.  We'll be sure to post those under the Resources section soon!

Please let us know if you need any help with the format!

Welcome to the Irate Pirate Mummelpuffin!  Both Otter and I have been playing for many many years and so have alot of the others around here so there is alot of experience to get help from.  Please don't hesitate to ask questions. We were all new to D&D once and needed help getting our feet wet.  The easiest way to get a grasp is read up a bit, ask questions, and dive into a game.  We are all willing to help a fellow player get into the groove of things!
